Question & Answer

We are discussing Writing your story
With Jackie French, Tehani Wessely, Virginia Tressider

Question:
I've written my family history, now I need to know how to get it published. I know it's not something a commercial publisher would want, but are there places which do design and binding and that sort of thing for small numbers of books?

Answer:
Virginia - There are several ways to approach this. You could try getting in touch with a graphic designer first – they usually have a favourite printer to work with. Or you could approach the printer: some can do graphic design in-house, and the others will know designers who would be interested in the job. As a rule of thumb, any printing company big enough to have a building rather than a shopfront will be equipped to produce books. The bigger the print run, the lower the cost per book will be. You might find it’s more realistic to get some design work done, and then get it printed as a loose-leaf folder – printing costs can be pretty painful, although possibly not as frightening as some people might imagine.
