We are discussing Water Saving - Every Drop Counts
With Aspi Baria, Michelle Walker and DEWR
Question:
I understand waterless car wash products exist on the market. Can you please tell me more about them and where I can locate such products to save water? Many thanks.
Answer:
Michelle - Waterless car cleaners use little or no water to clean your car. These products are becoming more popular given that many Australians are limited by water restrictions and are unable to use a hose to wash their car. Most waterless car cleaners are a liquid that is sprayed onto a car and wiped off, therefore also useful if you have limited space. Some involve the use of a small amount of water, up to 4 litres.
Low flow car cleaners are another type of car cleaning product on the market which use more water than waterless car cleaners, but are still water efficient. Generally these types of car cleaners are high or low pressure sprayers that use 12 -25 litres per wash and use a hose to direct water to where it is needed. Some require electricity to run a pump.
Waterless and low flow car cleaner products should be available at most Auto Accessory Suppliers.
Smart Approved WaterMark is an Australian labelling program for outdoor products and services that help to save water around the home. By looking at the SAWM website you can easily find water saving products for your home (see below). The website is continually updated as more products achieve SAWM approval.
