The gradual loss of vision is one of the most consistent components of ageing, and can be well managed through a variety of services, aids and medical procedures.

For information and professional advice on vision, always consult an Optometrist- a qualified health professional who can examine for vision and eye disorders as well as for health problems involving the eyes. For information in relation to vision and eye disorders and management of any eye health issues you can first talk to your doctor and for additional information visit the Optometrists Association of Australia website.

Vision Australia is the national peak body and offers services, information, equipment and advocacy for people of all ages who have a vision impairment. The Vision Australia website contains some useful fact sheets on: accessibility, braille, community education, children, eye conditions and general information.

Able Australia has services, useful resources and events for people who are effected by loss of sight or hearing; for further information visit their website. They have turned their focus towards older Australians and their needs.

Better Hearing Australia (Vic) is a non-profit organisation funded through the State Government to provide independent and current information and advice on hearing loss management by qualified health professionals. All their services are free. They offer hearing screenings for people concerned about their hearing, information on hearing aid technology and assistive listening devices for hearing the telephone and TV, help and assistance with managing your hearing aid, communication strategies, tips for better hearing, and information talks to interested persons.
