Recipes and Chefs
- The Better Health Channel website has hundreds of recipes available on an easily searchable database. You can choose to exclude results that do not meet your dietary requirements, like searching for gluten-free or high-fibre results.
- Food fact sheets on information like cooking, nutrition, weight management and food safety are also available.
- Kurma Dasa is known as Australia’s Vegetarian Guru. He has taught students around the world and hosted internationally broadcast TV cooking shows. His cook books have sold over a million copies. His website has vegetarian and vegan recipes as well as essays on food related topics.
- Old Australian Food Recipes has hundreds of recipes and dishes from yesteryear, presented in their original form. Many date back to the 1880s.
- The Dieticians Association of Australia has a database of healthy and tasty recipes that are selected by members and partners of the association.
- The Backyard has an extensive recipe collection and allows you to search for recipes by title, chef name and ingredients.
Food Safety and Additives
- The Food Intolerance Network provides independent information on food intolerances, allergies, and the effects of food additives.
- Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) develops standards and codes of practice regarding food. Its Food Matters section contains up to date information on a wide range of issues, including antibiotics and food, food recalls, food labelling and genetically modified food.
Nutrition and Health
- Go For Your Life is a Victorian Government initiative to encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle. Their site contains practical resources including dietary advice, recipes and nutrition tips, as well as information on healthy weights, body image and weight management.
- The Better Health Channel has online quizzes you can fill out to find out whether or not your eating habits are healthy.
- Dietary Guidelines for Older Australians were developed by the Australian Government, catering specifically to Australians aged 65 and over.
- Foodwatch is run by an Australian dietician. It has a free online library that includes recipes, an A-Z of allergy information, tips and fact sheets and an archive of nutrition articles.
Environment and History
- The Culture and Recreation Portal has historical information on foods eaten in Australia by aboriginals and early settlers. Its also offers resources on bush tucker – how to grow it, the foods available, and traditional hunting and cooking.
- Cool It! is an online guide to reducing energy use and greenhouse gases in the home. You can find out the best ways to cook in an environmentally conscious manner with simple tips like using a gas cooker and putting lids on pots.
