Question:
My husband and I had our honeymoon in Tasmania in 1967. I’m taking him to Hobart for an anniversary holiday next spring and want to give him a treat, where should we stay, I want to stay somewhere amazing? (We haven’t been back in 40 years.)
Answer:
Bev - In 1967 you would have been able to shoot a machine gun down the middle of Hobart and not hit a soul! It’s a seriously cool city now, still with the ‘small’ city charm but big on sophistication. Top dollar I would take hubby (and he would have had to be a very good husband) to The Henry Jones Art House Hotel for a night or two. Established in the old IXL Jam Factory, this eclectic gallery-style hotel on the docks is beautiful and close to everything.
Second choice is to stay at the Somerset on the Pier accommodation, right in the heart of the harbourside action. Spacious loft apartments overlook the yachts by the dock. Number three is Moorilla Estate. There are stunning luxury villas overlooking the Derwent River. The estate is a short drive from Hobart (or ferry trip), there’s a fine restaurant, the estate’s own brewery and a great selection of wines to go with the excellent food at the restaurant within the estate.
Whichever you choose to stay it will be lovely and to walk off the over indulgence of food try a walk around Hobart with ‘Hobart Historic Tours’, P.S. Have dinner at Cornelian Bay Boathouse, Happy anniversary!
