Question:
I am going to Sydney for a holiday. Where is a good place to stay? I want to see the city but at the same time I understand that some areas of the city are not very safe at night?
Answer:
Bev - You haven’t said what your budget is. There are hundreds of places to stay in Sydney and all sorts of accommodation from budget hostels, guesthouses, five star hotels, serviced apartments and motels. How long are you staying? Consider a serviced apartment if you want to stay in at night and cook your own meals. For a first time visitor with a curious and adventurous spirit I would stay as close in to the city as possible. From Circular Quay you can catch ferries to the inner and outer reaches of the harbour and sightsee at the same time. Also at the Quay there are busses that take you all over Sydney and her suburbs. Or you may like to stay at a beachside suburb like Bondi or Manly – you have to do some research before you come so you will get to do what you want in Sydney.
Treat Sydney as you would your home city or home town… stay among people on the main streets, don’t wander down dark alleys late at night and stick to public transport during the day or early evening. It’s all about common sense – Sydney is no more dangerous than anywhere else.
