Older Australians are the backbone of strong communities throughout our nation, contributing much to the fabric of Australian society through their knowledge, experience and lifetime of skills.
The National Day for Older Australians is on 1 October —a day to celebrate the significant contributions older Australians have made, and their continuing work and achievements.
As part of these celebrations, a 2007 calendar was developed, featuring nominees for the Senior Australian of the Year Award (2006). These remarkable nominees are a snapshot of the many inspirational older Australians who are working to build better communities throughout Australia. These people motivate and encourage us to continue to contribute to our community, regardless of age, and congratulations to each one of them on their leadership and achievements.
In celebrating the lives of those featured in this calendar, we are celebrating the lives of all older Australians and ensuring that Australia continues to value the contributions that older people make to our great country.
