While still living at home, an older person may need access to respite or temporary care, to give either them or their carer a short break.

The Respite Care Program provides short-term care in Australian Government subsidised aged care homes for people who are in temporary need of care and who intend to return to the community.

Except for emergency situations, a person must be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team before entry to an Australian Government subsidised service.
