Red Cross needs your help

Red Cross helps older people remain connected with their community with a free daily phone call, to check on their safety and wellbeing. The service enables older people to have the confidence to live in their own home knowing help is not far away in an emergency. It also provides a sense of security for family and friends.

This community program is funded by Housing NSW and run through a network of volunteers who make a daily morning phone call to socially isolated, medically dependent and older people living alone in social housing. If the phone call is not answered Red Cross initiates an emergency procedure and arranges assistance if required.

To help continue running this important service, Red Cross needs volunteers to assist in delivering the calls. As a Red Cross volunteer you will receive full training and ongoing support. Calls are made between 7am and 10am daily from a Red Cross office (located in Parramatta and Newcastle). The number of days and hours you are required to commit are flexible. If you are interested in volunteering for this service, call 1800 827 677.
