About Q&A Forums

Q&A Forum is an interactive feature where the community can ask questions on a monthly topic and have them answered and presented on seniors.gov.au.

Australia is home to some of the most amazing natural wonders of the world, from Kakadu National Park and the Snowy Mountains to the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru, one of the most recognisable symbols of Australia. It’s small wonder that Australia is one of the top holiday destinations for people overseas.

Many Australians choose to explore the country once they are retired, taking to the road (or the sky) on a ‘round Australia’ trek. There are lots of organisations dedicated to seniors travel, whether you’re travelling on a budget or intend to go for the ‘luxury’ option. There are also many websites online that give frank, unbiased and personal reports of travelling to different locations, and what you can expect when you go there.

If you’d like to travel around Australia, but you’re worried about travelling alone as a single, you can always take part in a tour group or find travel partners through social groups.

Do you have questions about travelling issues, like travel insurance and organising plane flights? Are you worried about travelling with medicine or health issues while you’re ‘on the road’? Or are you just looking for somewhere to spend a relaxing holiday? For the months of November and December, you will be able to ask a panel of experts about anything to do with travel.

This forum seeks to answer your questions about travel, as well as giving you ideas about places to visit. As usual, there is never a question too hard or too complex for this forum!

For the months of November and December, the Seniors Portal Q&A Forum is exploring ‘Journeys through Australia.’ If you would like to ask one of our panel members a question on any aspect of writing and reading, please do so. You can also have a read through the following questions and answers and view a short background to each of our panel members: Ian Henderson (Seniors Card NSW), Bev Malzard (seniors travel magazine Get Up and Go editor) and Leanne Mousley (manager of National Seniors Travel). For further information on the subject, please have a look through our list of useful resources.
