Psychogeriatric care units have been established in all states and the Northern Territory to improve the quality of care for people with dementia and challenging behaviours who are residents and potential residents of aged care homes.

Psychogeriatric care units provide support and training for residential care staff and carers in the community through expert diagnosis, assessment, advice and support on dementia and challenging behaviour.
