By pre planning your funeral you relieve your family from having to make important financial decisions during a period of great stress and grief. It is also a time when your family/partner may not know what to do if your wishes have not been made known through a funeral plan.

You may not want too much fuss and bother about your funeral. It is a time when friends and family can gather together and grieve openly and to provide support for one another.

Pre planning your funeral can be very informal, and as simple as doing a pre planning checklist and sharing your wishes with a family member. More formal arrangements in the form of a pre need contract can be set up with a funeral director and pre funded through your life insurance company, bank trust agreement, or another method.

The Financial Information Service of Centrelink can also provide information on estate planning, funeral planning etc.

The Australian Funeral Directors Association provides information on pre planning and pre paid funerals etc.
