The Department of Health and Ageing has commissioned the Edith Cowan University of Western Australia to develop guidelines for the delivery of palliative care in residential aged care. In formulating these guidelines the project team examined the evidence for effective practices in palliative care.
These practices cover all areas of life: physical, psychosocial, social, spiritual and cultural. The needs of the family are also taken into account.
As the next step, a national education and training program is being developed to ensure that all residential aged care staff are given suitable training so they can deliver quality palliative care. Palliative Aged Care Project

A new initiative by the Australian Government dedicated to palliative care is the online resource Palliativecare.gov.au
that provides extensive information on palliative care services locally and nationally.
