Living History
Your First Date
Scientists might say that two humans find their partners through ‘chemistry’, others say that people find their partners by less scientific means, like dances, through work, or by going on dates.
For the months of May and June, Living History will be looking at a topic that is unique to each of us - 'your first date'.
The idea of dating was new in the mid-1900s, and gradually became a more standard way for men and women to socialise together throughout the decades. There can be no doubt that the process of dating has changed over that time. Did you have to have a chaperone when you went on a date? Or did you go out dancing with your date?
We want to hear about your first date. Where did you go? What activities were popular for people who were on a date? Were there strict traditions about dating at that time? Has dating changed for better or for worse? We invite you to send in your memories, photos and stories of your first date.
