Legislation

The following information on Legislation is provided by the Attorney Generals Department and the Human and Equal Opportunity Commission, which covers a broad range of legislative issues and concerns of relevance to Australians over 50.

 

The Act prohibits age discrimination in many areas of public life, including employment, education and accommodation.

Governs all aspects of the provision of residential care, flexible care and Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs) to older Australians.

The definition of 'disability' in the Act is very wide and it includes physical, intellectual, psychiatric, sensory and neurological disabilities.

Governs financial assistance for home and community care services, the planning of services, and for people who are to be assisted through the program.

Deals with breaches of human rights as defined in a range of international treaties to which Australia is signatory.

Your personal information, including medical/health, financial and business, is protected by Privacy laws at both Commonwealth and state and territory levels. All aspects relating to the collection, use, disclosure, quality and security of personal information is covered by the laws.
