Question & Answer

We are discussing Lifelong - Lifewide Learning
With Barbara Pamphilon, Dorothy Braxton, Mary Hannan and Gloria Robbins

Question:
Do you recommend a way of running a reading group? I am interested in setting one up around all genres for people in my community. Are there any publications on how to run a group that you would recommend?

Answer:
Mary - Running a reading group is very similar to the methodology of running a learning circle or study circle. We do have information on how you facilitate small groups and I would be happy to share this with you.

Also, the Council of Adult Education in Melbourne are experts in the running of reading groups and it might be worthwhile talking to their Coordinator, also the Workers Education Association (WEA) in Sydney run discussion groups which are based on a reading group approach (these are very popular in more rural areas where people have problems in accessing further learning), it would be good to look at how they approach this program.

Both CAE and WEA would have a website but I would be happy to find out contact names for you to email.
