Question:
What courses do I take if I am interested in teaching but don't have any other degrees? What if I want to teach something in particular, like history?
Answer:
Barbara - To teach in a school you need to have either a four year Bachelor of Education or a degree in a specialist area plus a one year Diploma of Education - so typically a teacher of history would have a three year degree with at least a history major or a full history degree. Then the Diploma is undertaken to teach you the art and craft of teaching. So which path suits you will depend on what degree you already have, or if you do not have a relevant degree then the Bachelor of Education is the way to go.
Of course , if you want to work outside of schools, then there are many other options such as community education and adult education degrees. With these degrees you may work in community settings such as museums, and where teaching is often only part of your work.
