Question:
I'm currently doing my cert.III, in aged care and I'm looking for information on the affects social isolation on the ageing. I would appriciate any information on such web sites if any. thank you.
Answer:
Barbara - On the the joys of learning today is that we have such a wide range of people and technology to help as we investigate topics either for study or for our own interest— this really is a lifelong learning skill needed by us all.
You can certainly start with the internet search engines such as Google—where you type in key words and then look at the information that comes in. It is always important when you search in this way to check out what site you come to—you need to check if it is someone’s personal page or one from government, community agencies or perhaps an education institution. This will help you decide how reliable the information might be.
Most of us know that the local library is a great resource – but you may not realise that most libraries have a Readers Advisor who is there to help you in your search for information. These people are absolute gems as they know all about data-bases, search techniques and where specialist information may be found.
If you are enrolled in study your library will have similar specialist people – don’t forget that you are not ‘bothering’ them in asking for help – their jobs are to teach you the ways to find out information.
Good luck with your research and learning
