The Independent Living Centre (ILC) is an information resource centre that provides an equipment display of hundreds of items that people are able to try and compare. An equipment database of 6000 items, plus information on a range of organisations and services, complements the display. Independent Living Centres are located in every state and in Australian Capital Territory.

Everybody is welcome to use the ILC services, including people with disabilities, older people, their carers, parents, advocates and other service providers, health professionals, architects, builders, suppliers, manufacturers and students. You can try out products and equipment and select those most suitable prior to purchase.

Services offered by ILCs are:

  • Information advisory line
  • Health Professionals (Occupational Therapists and a Registered Nurse) provide individual assessment and advice
  • appointment service
  • drop-in service
  • second hand register
  • reference library.
