The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986 deals with breaches of human rights as defined in a range of international treaties to which Australia is signatory.

It also deals with complaints about equal opportunity in employment if you feel you have been discriminated against on the grounds of: race, colour, religion, sex, political opinion, national extradition, social origin, age, medical record, criminal record, sexual preference, trade union activity, marital status, nationality, disability and impairment.
