We are discussing Gardening, Growing and Green Thumbs!
With Brian Walters, Diana O'Brien and Pauline Cornish

Question:
What can I do to make by rose bushes flower? The bushes grow well with plenty of foliage but do not produce rose buds. I live on the Sunshine Coast

Answer:
Pauline - Firstly check that your roses are getting enough sunshine, they require at least 6 hours a day to flower.

Next add organic matter to the existing soil. Bags of cow manure can be purchased from your local garden centre if you don't have home made compost.

Fertilize with a commercial rose fertilizer. 'Sudden Impact for Roses' has proved very successful. This will need to be added regularly so follow the instructions on the packet.

Water well after applying and don't forget to mulch.

Some roses will perform better than others in your area. Check with your local garden centre on the best varieties to buy.

Good luck. I hope you get lots of blooms.
