Question & Answer

We are discussing Tracing family history
With Antoinette Buchanan, Stephanie Ryan and Jennifer Higgins

Question:
I would like to know about my relations in France, do I have any still living, if so who and where. e.g mother and sisters?

Answer:
Stephanie - Unfortunately we don’t have any experience with French genealogy records, but the following genealogy in France website is a useful guide for getting started. Civil registration (government registration) began in 1792. There are privacy restrictions under 100 years old.

You can also try the LDS website FamilySearch which contains millions of genealogical records from around the world. Your local library may hold the Western Europe Vital Records Index on CD-ROM. This index contains over 12.5 million birth, christening and marriage records for the French, Benelux, German, Alpine, Italian and Spanish regions. This is not a comprehensive index, but it contains a number of church and civil registration records from 1500s to 1905.
