With Antoinette Buchanan, Stephanie Ryan and Jennifer Higgins

Question:
Where in NSW would I discover the evidence tendered at Coroners' Inquests.. say back in the 1860's ? is it likely that it exists outside newspapers. exist back to 1860's.

Answer:
Jennifer - Reports on Coroner's Inquests are held at the State Records of New South Wales . There is an informative guide to their holdings called Inquest and coronial records .

You should be able to check the Indexes and Registers of Coroners' Inquests and Magisterial inquiries, 1834-1942 to see if an inquest was held. The one line entry in the Index/Register gives brief information including the cause of death.

These lists are part of the Archives Resource Kit, a collection of State Records material held at a number of libraries around NSW. Consult State Records NSW Community access points for the closest access point to you. The Archives Resource Kit is also held by State Libraries around Australia and some genealogical societies.
