Question & Answer

We are discussing Tracing family history
With Antoinette Buchanan, Stephanie Ryan and Jennifer Higgins

Question:
I’ve traced the names and dates of my family but how do I find out what they were really like?

Answer:
Antoinette - Begin by recording what you remember about your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. What school did they go to, what church did they attend, what jobs did they do, what hobbies did they have? Ask other relatives or longstanding family friends for their memories as well.

From this information you can start looking for histories of their local areas that might mention members of the family or places they were likely to visit or events they were like to attend. You might also like to look for local newspapers. The library in the area you are interested in will most likely have microfilm of their local newspapers.
