Question & Answer

We are discussing Falls Prevention
With Suzanne Ralston and Beverley Steer

Question:
I wear bifocal glasses and sometimes miss the edges of steps when walking. I haven’t had a fall but it makes me feel a bit unsteady. What can I do?

Answer:
Suzanne - Your optometrist is the best person to speak to about your concerns with bifocal glasses.

Wearing bifocals may increase your risk of falling if you look through the wrong part of the lense. It may be safer to have two pairs of glasses; one for distance and one for close up work. Your optometrist can discuss your options and help you decide which one is best for you.
