Downloading files from the Internet

The Internet enables you to listen to music, view movies, play interactive educational games, visit libraries and transfer applications to your own computer like virus checkers, MP3/Music file players, screen capturing programs and much more.

In order to get and use these applications you first need to learn how to download them to your own computer. Downloading refers to the actual transferring of the document from the Internet site where you found it to your own computer. You can usually start downloading a file simply by clicking on it, but sometimes it is more complex. You can get some tips on downloading and installing files from LearnTheNet - Downloading.

Whenever you download and open a file there is a risk that your computer could be infected with a virus contained in the file. In order to avoid this very stressful experience, you should download or purchase anti-virus software and keep it up to date.

See our guide to Staying secure on the Internet and visit LearnTheNet - Viruses to see how you can protect yourself from accidentally infecting your computer with a virus.
