Thank you!

During the Olympics, it was every Saturday, without fail, that I went to the local picture theatre.

Firstly they showed the ‘Movietone News’, and who could forget the ‘laughing kookaburra’!

Next was the Olympics special, where they featured a new Australian sporting hero each week. They showed the achievements of the sports-person and how they were going in the Melbourne Olympics. We were in awe; it was exciting!

I also remember when they fitted out ‘the G’ with a running track, it looked wonderful. I just wish I could have been able to attend an event, but not every family could afford to go, or lived close enough to Melbourne.

A big ‘thank you’ to our local picture theatre - for bringing to life the 1956 Melbourne Olympics!
