Living History
Frank's story - Married life and today
I married in early 1968 and our daughter Karina was born later that year in 1970 our son Max arrived. In September 1974 after 17 years with the PMG we pulled up stumps and moved to Paraburdoo in the north of Western Australia where I worked as the communications officer at an iron or mine. During the four and a half years there I also worked as a Projectionist and Manager at the local Drive in Picture Theatre. In 1979 we moved to Perth and I managed a Drive In there. After eighteen months I left and did various things Preparing Tax Returns with H&R Block, a parcel delivery with Australia Post, Insurance and Investment advising with H&R Block and we owned and operated a Drive In on the weekends, in Wongan Hills a small town north west of Perth. In 1983 I rejoined the PMG or as it was then known Telecom. In 1984 my wife and I parted and in 1988 Karina went overseas and Max started University I got a transferred back to Sydney and moved over to my then girlfriend Beverleigh just out of Springwood in the Blue Mountains. We were married on New Years Eve that year. In 1998 I accepted a redundancy package from Telstra and we moved to Moonee Beach near Coffs Harbour. Where we lived to this day.
I consider myself lucky that I was either too young or to old to be involved in wars such as Korea and Vietnam and never had trouble getting a job until I left Telstra at the age of 57. In the fifties and sixties we never had to lock up our house or car, we could play in the streets and run around at night without fear. We made friends of people regardless of colour or creed or social standing. And we did not have to put up with the crazy political correctness that exists today. I would have to say that my life was not that of the average person in those days, some of my friends lived in a two parent household up until they married, worked in the same job in the same town all their working life.
Through my work I have traveled over most of NSW and WA and on holidays have seen most of the rest of Australia. I have also been fortunate enough to have traveled to Bali, Singapore twice, Hawaii, the west coast of the California, Arizona (the Grand Canyon) Mexico’s west coast, New Zealand, Fiji three times, Norfolk Island twice and Kenya and Zimbabwe and had a cruise around the Pacific Islands.
