My crazy 70's house

My husband and I built our house in 1975. It was full of outrageous Art Deco fittings, right from bright purple lampshades through to mustard carpets and multi-coloured swirly wallpaper! The walls on the outside were made from stones that were of differing shades of brown and grey, designed to make the walls appear as if they were made with a mosaic of different stones. WE had an ornamental grape vine growing over the back porch where we kept our weber bbq, and entertained all the time. We also had a fibreglass in-ground pool. The centrepiece of our seventies house was our waterbed, which was the height of fashion back then, it used to have a chocolate brown velvet bedhead, with similar bedside tables on either side, and matching lamps, with a built in radio in the bed head.

We thought it was great at the time but when you look back it was one of those houses that you’d balk at if you saw it now, it was extremely colourful! Needless to say the house has been renovated on numerous occasions and following some serious gutting, painting and rendering the house has a more modern (and slightly less gasp-worthy!) façade. My how times have changed!
