Cyclones

When I was a teenager I lived in Harvey Bay in Queensland. Early one year a cyclone gradually made its erratic way towards us and crossed the coast right over us. The winds built up all day and by night fall we knew we weren’t going to get much sleep. We taped up the windows and packed towels around all the windows and doors. But the rain still got in and also ran down the inside walls where the gutters were blocked. We went from one window to the next all night wringing out towels and watching the wild weather outside.

We watched the roof of our garage ripple and lift up and down and then get completely blown off. We were lucky our actual house was left undamaged. The next day we saw the damage to our crops and garden. There were so much damage it took weeks to clear away and our banana farm was completely destroyed. We eventually replanted the banana farm and thankfully have not had to go through such a frightful experience again.
