How The Beatles affected me, my family, friends and community
Brisbane was a BUZZ with the anticipation of the arrival of the BEATLES - The heads of HAIR, BEATLE MUSIC and MANIA was alive and screaming. In the midst an ambulance, with siren blaring, made a distrubing dash across the Story Bridge, en-route to Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital 8:30am, Monday 24th June, 1964.
Michèle Sandra our first born, came into the world with a very healthy head of dark hair. The hospital staff immediately christened her THE BEATLE BABY. In those days, babies were only viewed through a glass window, always to a throng of waiting Dads, rellies and friends. We were so proud to hear our baby introduced as THE BEATLE BABY. Feeding times babies were wheeled to respective Mum’s rooms in a long trolley, my little beatle always singing for her supper.
LAKESIDE RACEWAY was to have ‘Big Opening’ coming weekend. My husband Keith had covered same route Wynnum to Petrie aboard Hornibrooks famous Pengo at sunrise same morning. He was drilling post holes for the track lights when company ute with loud hailer announced ‘The birth of his baby daughter with a mop of black hair.’ Amid workers, Daddy didn’t get the credit for the production. The Beatles arrived in Australia 21/6/64, in Brisbane 29th. Our little advert appeared Courier Mail alongside the broader news.
