A Hard Days Night

They were very exciting days for the young girls and boys when United Artists (UA) organised The Beatles to come out in 1964. My late husband Frank was Publicity Director and was very involved with their travelling arrangements and comfort.

When UA released the film 'A Hard Days Night' in a Sydney theatre I went with my husband very early that morning to find the young were queued up for two blocks, waiting to get in and had been there all night. One of my friend’s grand daughter was in the first lot and said, 'Please don’t tell Gran I was here', I said 'Okay'.
When the doors opened there was a mad rush, the girls in the ticket box were so flat out, they were throwing the notes on the floor and ended up ankle deep in money.
It was the first time I had seen the film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was in my 40th year at the time and all the oldies said that it would be the downfall of our youth as The Beatles had long hair, which was coming into vogue, but they always wore suits.
The really would leave the current modern bands for dead, as far as appearance is concerned.
