You may be eligible to be a concessional resident if you cannot afford an accommodation bond or charge because, among other reasons, you have assets of less than two and a half times the annual single basic age pension. This means that the Australian Government will pay your residential care provider a supplement to help you get into residential care.

If your assets are between two and a half and four times the annual single basic age pension, you may be eligible to be an assisted resident and your provider will receive a reduced supplement.

Depending on the region you live in, between 16% and 40% of residential aged care places are reserved for concessional and assisted residents. For further information visit the Department of Health and Ageing website.

If you have any questions about residential aged care, please call the Aged Care Information Line from anywhere in Australia on 1800 500 853
