Question & Answer

We are discussing Surfing through Computers and the Internet
With Nathanael Boehm, Nan Bosler and DCITA

Question:
I am thinking of switching to broadband from my current dial-up service, but I do not use the Internet all that often. Is it worthwhile?

Answer:
DCITA - Having broadband access has a number of benefits. Firstly, it will give you a much faster connection to the Internet, probably at least five times as fast as your current dial-up service. Broadband is ‘always on’ so you will not have to connect up each time you want to go online.

By not having to make a phone call to dial-up, you will save the cost of these calls, while having the convenience of being able to use your phone to make and receive calls while online.

Many people find that having a broadband connection changes the way they use the Internet, as they realise how much more quickly they can get what they want.

There are now many different broadband service providers, and different payment plans. A good starting point to find out about the different options for getting broadband is Whirlpool, an independent community website with plenty of information about the state of broadband in Australia.
