Question & Answer

We are discussing Surfing through Computers and the Internet
With Nathanael Boehm, Nan Bosler and DCITA

Question:
(i) Are laptop computers better than the full-sized desktop machines?

(ii) Can they do the same sorts of things that a full-sized computer can do?

Answer:
Nan - (i) Laptops are not better than their larger cousins, but they are sometimes more convenient, especially for people who live in small retirement units and do not have a lot of space.

(ii) These days laptops are almost as cheap as their desktops counterparts, and can do everything the larger computers can do. Because of their smaller size, their processor speed is a bit less, and their hard drives do not have quite the capacity of a desktop machine. Laptops are also called NOTEBOOK computers, as manufacturers are a little shy about encouraging people to sit them on their laps, due to the heat they can generate.
