The Carer Allowance is an income supplement paid to you if you provide full time carer on a daily basis for an adult or child who needs a lot of additional care.

You may get Carer Allowance if:

  • you are looking after a child or an adult with a severe disability or medical condition
  • you live with the child you are caring for, or
  • you provide care for an adult in either your home or the home of the person you care for, and
  • you and the person you are caring for are Australian residents.

This payment is non-taxable and is not subject to an income or assets test. You may also be able to receive another Centrelink pension or payment in addition to the Carer Allowance.
