The Senior Australian of the Year Award

State and National awards, which recognise and celebrate the contribution of older Australians to the community. This award is managed by the National Australia Day Council.

Older People Speak Out (OPSO) National Media Awards

The OPSO National Media Awards aim to encourage the media to break down negative stereotypes of older people by portraying the positive contributions made by older Australians.

Older People Speak Out (OPSO) People’s Choice Media Awards

The OPSO People’s Choice Awards gives the community the ability to nominate something they have seen or heard in the media as an excellent example of the positive portrayal of older people. Awards are given to the nominator and creator of the winning entry.

MBA Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award

This Award recognises best practice in the design and construction of affordable dwellings for Australia’s seniors with the aim of influencing members of the building industry to consider the housing needs of an ageing population.

Diversity@work Awards

The Diversity@work awards program provides recognition for large and small employers who have achieved excellence in their employment practices with people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, with a disability, indigenous Australians and mature age workers.

National Awards for Local Government

The National Awards for Local Government (NALG) is a Commonwealth Government initiative established in 1986 to foster and acknowledge innovation, excellence and continuous improvement in the Local Government sector. These awards are conducted through the Department of Transport and Regional Services. The Office for an Ageing Australia sponsors 2 categories in these awards. They are:

Planning for an Ageing Community Category
This award recognises the important role that Local Government is playing in developing and implementing responses to provide for the future of their ageing communities.

Universal Design for Public Amenities
This Award will be given to a project which displays excellence in design and features in public amenities.
