Avoiding scams and hoaxes

Many scams and hoaxes on the internet are the same as mail and telephone scams: it’s simply a different way of criminals to get in contact with you, especially through Spam, which is unsolicited email sent to your email address. The most popular scams are the standard "get rich working from home" and pyramid selling schemes. You should familiarise yourself with the common types of scams and then check back at sites like Scam Watch when you see something you think might be a Spam.
