Question & Answer

We are discussing The Self Management of Arthritis
With Graeme Rossiter, Elizabeth Scrivener and Sally Ranford

Question:
Your article on Osteoarthritis and the use of shark cartilege was interesting in respect of the use of Glucosamine and Chondroitin. You stated that chemists and healthfood shops stocked an item which combined both Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Could you advise the name of this product ?

Answer:
Elizabeth - I cannot give you brand names in this forum, however your pharmacist or health food store would be able to discuss particular brands and their relative merits with you.

If you are considering taking glucosamine, or any other food supplement, here is a framework you can follow to help you make the decision:

*discuss the effects of taking the supplement with your doctor
* do not stop taking your medication or any other therapies you currently take to help your condition, change your exercise routine, or your usual diet
*do some research on the supplement that includes a discussion with your pharmacist
*stick with a reputable manufacturer, with the best quality product, when deciding what brand to buy
*always remember that you should stop taking the product if you feel unwell.
