Ageing and aged care information in other languages
Feedback
The Department of Health and Ageing produces several ageing related brochures in community languages. These are particularly useful for people who are not comfortable reading in the English language. For the complete list of these publications visit the Department of Health and Ageing website.
Several other health organisations also produce general health and ageing related brochures in community languages. Some of these are listed below:
- Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care
- Department of Human Services and Health, Victoria, Health Translations Directory.
- Centrelink information is available in many different community languages.
- Alzheimer’s Australia offers dementia specific brochures and other resources in community languages.
If you are more comfortable speaking another language, you may want to use the services of an interpreter when making inquiries about health and ageing related matters. For more information on the availability of interpreters, visit the Department of Health and Ageing website.
The Aged Care Information Line 1800 500 853 (free call from landlines) provides information about Australian Government funded residential aged care and community care options. Its business hours are 8.30 am to 5pm Monday to Friday (Eastern Standard Time) and it is closed on national public holidays. It uses the Translating and Interpreting Service on 13 14 50 for interpreter services. You can connect to the Aged Care Information Line through 13 14 50 at a time which suits you. There is no cost to the caller for the services of the interpreter or the advice from the Aged Care Information Line.
