The Senior Australian of the Year Award - 2000

State and National awards, which recognise and celebrate the contribution of older Australians to the community. This award is managed by the National Australia Day Council.

Prof. Freda Briggs

Freda is an advocate for children. After working for the British police force in the child protection field, she moved to Australia to become the Director of Early Childhood Studies at the State College of Victoria. She has been a consultant for many humanitarian and aid organisations in Asia and the Pacific, including Save the Children, and has advised the New Zealand Ministry of Education and the Fijian Government on child protection issues.
